Coral Dorje Brooch

Kaligarh

Dorje means thunderbolt. It symbolises strength, both physical and spiritual. An important symbol in the Buddhist and Hindu scriptures, a three-dimensional dorje is often held by Buddhist priests during religious rituals. In the harsh climate of Dolpo äóñ a remarkable region nestled behind the Himalayas in the northwest of Nepal äóñ women wear a larger version of this brooch to hold together their shawls. Similarly, this piece can be worn to hold in place a scarf or to adorn the lapel of a heavy winter coat.

  • Measures 12.5cm L x 4cm W.
