Lovely Zar earrings from Egypt with galagil (sphere shaped dangles). Made, as a lot of zar jewelry is, from 600 silver and fully hallmarked with the three part Egyptian hallmark identifying the purity of silver (60%) and the date (1953-1959) and carrying the Lotus Hallmark. The top part of the earring is decorated with roping and with a coral colored bead. These earrings were used in the zar ceremony, a ceremony to appease spirits which have taken hold of the body. The ceremony practiced in Egypt and Sudan is accompanied by a lot of movement and rhythmical drumming. Anteeka offers one of a kind, vintage jewelry from around the world. These are authentic antique and vintage pieces that may bear some light imperfections, which we find, only add to their charm!
